The sport court

The court is a blue-and-red basketball half court beside the backyard lawn. It is part of the property and available to guests throughout the stay, for pickup games, shooting contests or kids burning off energy before dinner.

Permanent snookball

Snookball is a cross between soccer and pool, played by kicking soccer balls into pockets. The court here is permanent, fixed along the white wall behind the seating area with a continuous concrete boundary and synthetic turf. It is one of the most-photographed parts of the backyard and an easy game for mixed ages.

Everything else in the backyard

Beyond the court, the backyard has mini golf, a putting green, backyard bowling, cornhole, giant chess, giant Jenga and a playground. Inside, the game room has a pool table and foosball, plus ping pong. Together that is 15+ games on one property.

The private pool and covered hot tub sit next to it all, with shaded lounges and covered outdoor dining. Pool heat is optional and can be added for your stay; see the booking page for details. Pool heat is purchased for the entire stay.

Who uses it

Families with kids, friend groups, golf trips, spring training crews and multigenerational reunions all use the court differently. The common thread is that the entertainment is already at the house, so the group spends less time driving and more time together.

For families, the court sits near the playground and lawn games, so younger kids can play while older kids shoot hoops. Friend groups and wedding-weekend guests tend to run tournaments. Spring training and golf groups use it to fill the hours between the ballpark or the course and dinner. Multigenerational groups often find it is the one place grandparents, parents and kids all end up together, whether playing or cheering from the shaded seating nearby.

Making the most of the court

Groups use the court in all kinds of ways: a morning shootaround before golf, a family game of H-O-R-S-E before dinner, or a full bracket that runs the length of the trip. Pair it with snookball and mini golf and you have an easy backyard tournament that mixes ages and skill levels, with the pool and hot tub a few steps away for everyone waiting their turn.

Arizona sun is strong for much of the year, so many groups play in the morning or toward sunset and spend the middle of the day in the pool or under the covered patios. Bring water, sunscreen and proper shoes. Supervise younger kids on the court and around the pool at all times.

Inside, the game room keeps the competition going after dark with a pool table and foosball, and the bunk room and living spaces make it easy for kids and adults to have their own corners of the house.
